The Presidency has refuted reports circulating on social media that President Muhammadu Buhari is dead.
Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, said nothing unpleasant has happened to the president.
He described the speculations as “baseless rumour”, urging Nigerians to disregard them.
“Baseless rumors are trending again that an unpleasant thing has happened to our beloved president, Muhammadu Buhari,” he tweeted.
“If you have received this information on WhatsApp or Facebook, disregard it because it is plain lies spread by vested interests to create panic
Nothing unpleasant has happened to the president. No cause for apprehension. Thanks for the many calls.”
Special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina dismissed the reports on his twitter handle.
He said the president wished to assure all Nigerians that there was no cause for worry.
“The length of the president’s stay in London will be determined by the doctors. Government will continue to function normally under the able leadership of the Vice President,” Adesina said.
