Officials of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON, have stopped a truckload of low quality vegetable oil in Akure, Ondo State.
The group, which focused on altering and refurbishing of low quality vegetable oil, was arrested by both agencies during an enforcement exercise where receipt of private credentials from concerned investors in the state.
According to Engr. Paul Oke, Ondo State Coordinator, several items were found in the illegal factory located along Irese Road, near Orange FM Station in Akure, included thousands of jerry cans of various sizes and famous brands also two surface storage tanks with capacity of 15,000 litres each.
Engr. Oke, acting as a representative for the Director General, SON, Osita Aboloma, stated that the cooperation between the agency and DSS to carry out surveillance, helped with the arrest of the leader of the group, who supposedly has been in the business for the past four years.
SON state Coordinator said preparatory investigations showed that the company hadn’t been registered, and sample of the oil have been taken to the laboratory to be tested while the suspects will remain in custody of the DSS for more investigation to arrest the other culprits involved.
