Manchester United on Sunday beat Southampton in a thrilling game to lift the EFL Cup for the 5th time; a record surpassed only by Liverpool.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man; and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was once again the man of the hour as he scored a brace to secure the win for United.
Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a beautifully taken free kick just after Southampton had a goal ruled out for offside. Replays showed the linesman had made the wrong call in his offside decision.
Jesse Lingard got the second in the 38th minute finding the bottom-right corner to score on his third consecutive Wembley appearance for United.
Manolo Gabbiadini netted for Southampton in stoppage time and again just 3 minutes into the second half to make the scores level at 2-2.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 26th goal of the season came in the 87th minute and it was enough to clinch the title for United.
The win saw Mourinho claiming the first major trophy of his United reign and his fourth overall EFL cup, tying the record jointly held by Brian Clough and Alex Ferguson.
The win also saw Ibrahimovic lifting the 32nd major trophy of his career and the 35 year old Swede doesn’t seem like he plans on stopping anytime soon.
